About Whenary
Why this exists
Every major calendar is built by a company whose revenue depends on knowing what you do and with whom. Meetings, plans, recurring routines, the people you coordinate with. That data is stored, analyzed, and in most cases used to build advertising profiles. The product is free because you are the product.
Whenary is built on the premise that a calendar should be a tool, not a data source. No advertising model. No engagement feed. No interest graph. The business is funded by the people who use it, not by the data they generate.
What it is
A shared calendar you can actually trust. Visibility controls that mean something: you decide what each person sees, at the event level, per friend. A coordination layer for real life: finding mutual free time, locking in plans together, keeping details between the people who need them. No public discovery feed. No algorithm deciding what surfaces.
It works alongside your existing setup. Two-way CalDAV sync with Apple Calendar, Thunderbird, and Android. ICS import and export. Guest RSVP and availability polls that work without an account. OPAQUE passwords the server never sees. Passkeys. Encrypted fields at rest.
Core features are free and will stay free.
Who built it
N. A. Thompson. Independent developer. Whenary is not venture-backed, has no institutional investment, and has no acquisition roadmap. That independence is what makes the product possible: no investor incentive to monetize attention or harvest data, no board pressure to grow at the expense of privacy.
How it stays independent
Optional Supporter contributions from users who want to help keep the lights on. Supporters get concrete thank-you perks (more storage, event history, guest email headroom), not privileged access to anyone else's data. The model is designed so product incentives and user interests are the same thing.
