How to use Whenary

Personal calendars, guest invites, encryption, offline edits, keyboard shortcuts, settings, and account limits. Security, privacy, and cryptography pages go further on the same behavior.

Start with your own calendar

Create an account and add events on a personal calendar. Friends, spaces, guest links, and Discover are optional.

Day, three-day, week, month, year, and agenda are views of the same events. A recurring event stays one event with a repeat rule.

Invite someone who does not have an account

Open the event and create a guest link. Send the link. The person opens it and responds. They do not need to register.

A revoked link, an expired link, or a cancelled event stops the response. Create a new link when you want them to try again.

Choose encryption per calendar

An ordinary calendar lets Whenary read event text so reminders, CalDAV, and external calendar sync can run. End-to-end encryption is a setting on that calendar. Save the recovery phrase from Settings before you rely on it. If you forget the password and you do not have the recovery phrase, that calendar stays unreadable. Whenary does not keep a copy of the key.

These server actions stop on an encrypted calendar, and the product tells you how to continue:

  • Download from Settings → Data or the calendar editor, which builds the file on your device.
  • Import through the app so events are encrypted on your device first.
  • Remove this calendar's ICS subscription links before turning on end-to-end encryption.
  • Disconnect external calendar sync before turning on end-to-end encryption.

Keep working when the network drops

The browser keeps calendars and events it has already loaded. A cached entry is kept for 30 days. The events cache holds 50 entries.

While you are offline, creating, editing, and deleting an event can wait on the device, and so can creating, editing, and deleting a list item. Other changes do not. Sign in once while online before you save offline. When the connection returns, those waiting changes sync.

  • This action requires an internet connection.
  • Sign in online before saving changes offline.
  • Saved offline. Changes will sync when you are back online.

Free and Supporter limits

These caps are what the server applies. Personal Supporter is the paid tier. Host Pro is a separate plan for guest-link tools, described on the Supporter page.

Profile has a Birthday card. A geographic location in an event can offer Search on Maps, and an event that already has coordinates shows a map in the editor. Import calendar brings an existing calendar in. Trash holds deleted events, including an edited occurrence you removed from a repeating event. You can restore them from Settings until the retention period ends.
